Titanium-Reinforced Membrane Treatment in South Ogden and Kaysville, UT

Your oral health is an important thing to maintain. In fact, taking care of your teeth and ensuring that your oral hygiene is second to none might be the most important thing you can do for your health. The reason why is simple: if your teeth fail you, your ability to easily eat, speak, and interact with the world does, too. This can, in turn, diminish your quality of life as well as your ambition. That’s why it’s just as important to take care of issues as quickly as possible as it is to prevent them in the first place. If you end up needing some sort of dental procedure done, don’t avoid it—see a specialist as quickly as possible! And remember that today’s advancements in technology have come a long way. Dental implants and everything that goes with them, for example, are impressive options that were not so commonplace even a few decades ago.

What Is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is, essentially, a replacement tooth. Put more specifically, a dental implant consists of two different parts and stages. The first is the metal bit that is actually implanted into your jaw. The second part is the crown (or other replacement tooth option) that is affixed atop the implant. Once the procedure has been completed, you are left with a replacement tooth that looks, feels, and works like a natural one! Sometimes, however, there are issues that patients and dentists might need to address before the dental implant surgery can take place.

What Is Bone Grafting?

When it comes to ensuring that your implant will have a sturdy and secure place to call home, bone grafts are the obvious choice. This is a procedure where we will take bone or bone substitute and insert it into the area that needs to see more bone growth. Eventually, your bone will begin to grow and generate, and you can eventually continue on with the implant process. Sometimes, however, bone grafts need a little help along the way.

What Is a Membrane?

In general terms, a membrane acts as a barrier. When it comes to dentistry, it is used to stop your gums from growing over the bone cavity itself. Sometimes membranes are installed under your gum, but over your bone graft to help promote healing and ensure that everything mends properly. There are two different types of membranes: dissolvable and non-dissolvable. Non-dissolvable membranes, like titanium-reinforced membranes, produce more predictable results that dissolvable membranes. For this reason, they are often used in bone grafts where there is a concern that the graft could fail. Titanium-reinforced membranes are very good at consistently producing bone growth, and are particularly adept at holding space. It holds your tissue up kind of like a tent does, and allows your body to create new mass and volume underneath.
