What Symptoms to Expect if You Have Advanced Gum Disease
There are a number of things that you should be concerned with if you are in any stage of gum disease. But if you already have advanced gum disease, then the issues and problems you are facing can be much more serious. If you are wondering how advanced your condition might be, here are a few of the symptoms you should be aware of:
Visual Symptoms
The more common problems which accompany advanced gum disease that are also visible to the naked eye are things like swollen or puffy, red gums, bleeding when brushing or eating, and a thick, white coating on the tongue, just to name a few. Any one of these individually, or in combination with the others is an oral health red flag and should be looked at by us immediately.
Internal Symptoms
There are other symptoms which don’t necessarily manifest themselves visually, but are present nonetheless. Often times these are the indicators of the most advanced cases. One of the most telling and extreme symptoms is loose or shifting teeth. This is usually due to bone loss and tooth decay following a long period of neglect concerning the developing gum disease. Other symptoms include chronic dry mouth, bad breath, as well as several others. Any one of these issues is bad enough on its own, but once it gets to this stage the problems tend to start compounding on each other.
If you think of any reason that you may have advanced gum disease, putting off treatment any longer could have serious short and long-term effects. It’s best if you come by our dental offices as soon as you can and get scheduled for an exam. Even though it wasn’t detected earlier, treating it now can still get it under control.
